Painting

Works and Series, 2008-2015
This series of five encaustic paintings was created in the fall of 2015 and part of a show with Kythe Heller . They represent a refinement of my approach to art making, one that relies on blind faith in my art making mechanism, my muse. Encaustic is an ancient medium-it is painting with molten wax, and so it is very difficult to control. This rendezvous with chaos creates an opportunity for instinct to take over, to paint over and around my egoic mind.
The paintings below represent larger bodies of work created before I began my formal studies in theology. You can see an attempt to grapple with subconscious forces that touch on mythological themes.  Death is in some of them, but life is in all of them.
